She loves the Waltons!

Our little one doesn't watch much TV, but on holidays its a tradition to watch the Waltons at Grandpa's and Grandma's house. She loves the show and gets really excited when the music comes on. This video was taken way past her bedtime and she still had energy to dance!

We spent most of Christmas Day at Shaun's parents'. We had a great time and the food was absolutely delicious. Lilly always likes to visit with her grandparents.

Change of plans...

I am getting used to constantly have to change plans because of illness. We went yesterday to the doctor and it turns out that Lil still has fluid in her right ear, a ruptured eardrum in her left ear, bacterial pink eye and a nice cough at night. Ergo: weekend plans cancelled. So we got antibiotics and eye drops and still have no idea what to do about the cough - any suggestions? (Sonja, I tried the Vicks, but it only worked a little.) Luckily she is doing better today. The meds seems to help.
Right now she is very busy changing her new babydoll she got from her Opa. The thing is cute how it talks, goes potty, and moves its mouth. Lil wants to throw the diaper away every time she changes the baby. On Christmas Eve she went to the fridge, got out a half-gallon of milk and wanted to fill her baby's bottle. She acted like the world was coming to an end when we tried to explain to her that the doll doesn't need milk. Lil is a really good mommy!
Schoen langsam gewoehne ich mich daran dass wir regelmaessig unsere Plaene aendern muessen weil jemand krank ist. Wir waren gestern beim Arzt und Lilly hat Fluessigkeit im rechten Ohr, ein kleines Loch im linken Ohr, eine beidseitige Augenentzuendung und einen ziemlich guten Husten. Natuerlich mussten wir unsere Plaene fuer das ganze Wochenende absagen. Jetzt haben wir Medikamente und es scheint ihr schon besser zu gehen.
Momentan ist sie sehr beschaeftigt mit ihrer neuen Puppe die sie vom Opa bekommen hat. Sie spricht, kann essen, geht auf Klo, und bewegt ihren Mund. Lilly will pausenlos die "dreckigen" Windeln in den Muell schmeissen. Am Heiligen Abend hat sie die Milch aus dem Kuehlschrank geholt und wollte unbedingt die Flasche fuer die Puppe auffuellen. Man haette glauben koennen dass die Welt zu einem Ende kommt wenn wir ihr erklaert haben dass die Puppe keine Milch braucht. Sie ist halt eine gute Puppenmama!

Oh, these ears....

Just like last, Lilly was starting to have again an earache last night. She was up very frequently, but we couldn't figure out what bothered her. She never touched her ear. Later on today I saw the drainage in her ear. I hope she'll have an easier night tonight after medicine and some eardrops. She's been a little trooper.
Wie letztes Jahr hat Lilly auch heuer wieder eine Ohrenentzuendung kurz vor Weihnachten. Es hat gestern Abend angefangen, aber wir wussten noch nicht was es war. Sie hat keine Anzeichen gemacht dass es das Ohr ist das weh tut. Heute hab' ich dann gesehen dass ihr Ohr ganz verkrustet war. Nach Medizin und Ohrentropfen hat sie heute hoffentlich eine bessere Nacht. Daumen halten.

Christmas Card Pictures

A couple of weeks ago I tried again to get the perfect picture for our Christmas cards. Sonja had already tried a month ago and Lilly gave her an extremly hard time. As you can see, I wasn't any luckier. At least we had great weather and went on a nice walk.

Vor zwei Wochen hab' ich probiert noch einmal Fotos fuer unsere Weihnachtskarten zu machen. Sonja hat vor einem Monat sehr viel Zeit damit verbracht von Lilly Fotos zu machen, hatte aber nicht viel Glueck. Mir ist es dieses Mal kein bisschen besser gegangen. Wenigstens hatten wir schoenes Wetter und sind auf einen schoenen Spaziergang gegangen.

As soon as we got back home she was a happy little critter. Lilly knows how to test your patience!
Sobald wir nach Hause gekommen sind war sie uebergluecklich. Lilly weiss wie sie einen in den Wahnsinn treiben kann!

1. I am a complete idiot when it comes to doing anything complicated on my laptop, camera, car, etc. (That's why I can't post the links)

4. I ripped our phone jack out of the wall when I moved our dining room table - so that's why I am not picking up my phone - it's not working.
5. It drives me crazy when my dog licks anything - I can't stand the sound.

Christmas Tree Hunting

This week has gone by way too fast! It seems like it just was Saturday. Last week I took Shaun out to see Drew Hastings, a well-known comedian from Dayton. We had a great time and also enjoyed having dinner and coffee just the two of us. Thanks Mom and Dad! Sunday night I went out with friends for dinner and a movie - Twilight - not as good as the book. On Tuesday I had a dental emergency and Lilly got to go to Grandma and Grandpa's house again. On Thursday I had to get glucose testing done to check on my sugar levels and afterwards I got to hear our baby-boy's heartbeat. I am 29 weeks now. Yesterday we went Christmas tress hunting and found a very nice one. I am looking forward to decorating it. Today it's been snowing all day, so we went outside to play in tonight we'll go to see reindeer, a live nativity scene, tons of lights, and maybe Santa. Time flies...

Lilly and her Papa are looking for the perfect Christmas tree. He had to carry her the whole time. She is very attached to Shaun.

Diese Woche ist total schnell vergangen. Mir kommt vor es war erst gestern Samstag! Letzte Woche bin ich mit Shaun zu einer Vorstellung gegangen, und es war angenehm davor mal zum Essen gehen zu koennen ohne unsere kleine Begleitung. Am Sonntag war ich mit Freunden beim Essen und im Kino, das war Spass. Am Dienstag musste ich unverhofft zum Zahnarzt und Lilly durfte wieder zu den Grosseltern. Am Donnerstag hatte ich dann einen Bluttest und danach konnte ich den Herzschlag's unseres kleinen Jungen hoeren :) Jetzt sind nur noch 11 Wochen uebrig! Gestern haben wir dann einen Weihnachtsbaum gekauft. Heute hat es den ganzen Tag geschneit und spaeter werden wir und Rentiere, den Weihnachtsmann, Pferdekutschen, und jede Menge Lichter anschauen gehen. Die Zeit vergeht so schnell...

Black Friday

Yesterday I thought about a little shopping this morning, but decided that it would probably end with me spending much more money than I should, especially on things I won't need. Instead Lilly and I are hanging out, reading books, coloring, practicing to not open the fridge every ten minutes just because she likes to look at the food - the last thing we need is another family member with that habit :) On top of these little battles she is getting four new teeth at the same time - fun.
We'll go outside in a few minutes to play and rake leaves. Right now the sun is out so at least it hopefully won't be too cold.
We had a very nice Thanksgiving with Shaun's parents. The food was great and plentyful. We watched the Walton's Homecoming and a Thanksgiving episode - a little tradition. Lilly likes the Waltons as well, we guess its the abundance of children and animals on the show.
Heute ist der groesste Einkaufstag der Jahres in den Staaten. Gestern hab' ich fuer ein Weilchen vorgehabt einkaufen zu gehen, aber ich glaube es ist besser fuer meine Geldboerse und meine Nerven wenn ich zu Hause bleibe. Anstatt dessen spielen Lilly und ich, lesen jede Menge Buecher, malen, und ueben nicht alle paar Minuten den Kuehlschrank aufzumachen weil Lilly gerne schaut was drinnen ist. Das letzte das wir brauchen ist noch ein Familienmitglied das die Finger nicht vom Kuehlschrank lassen kann. :) Als ob das nicht genug Grund zum Heulen waere, Lilly bekommt auch noch vier neue Zaehne auf einmal - Spass. Wir werden jetzt rausgehen solange die Sonne noch scheint und ein bisschen frische Luft schnappen.
Wir hatten gestern ein schoenes Thanksgiving mit Shaun's Eltern. Das Essen war echt super. Danach haben wir nach Familientradition die Waltons angeschaut. Lilly mag die Sendung auch, wahrscheinlich weil es viele Kinder und Tiere gibt.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and enjoy Thanksgiving with your families like I will with mine. We'll spend the day with Shaun's parents, who probably already slave over the turkey as I am writing this. :) I'll have to go and cook the one dish I am bringing before my little helper gets up. Happy Birthday, Papa!

Shaun had on Saturday his birthday and we celebrated with his Mom and Dad. Shaun picked Quaker, Steak & Lube for dinner. It is a nice theme-restaurant with really good food. We all enjoyed it, including our little critter. She had her first chicken wing and had fun with it! Afterwards we went to Shaun's parent's for birthday cake, a nice fire and a lot of playtime. It was a very pleasant and fun evening. We you love you Papa! Our little girl already calls for him first thing in the morning from her crib and she gets pretty upset if you ask her to leave the room without Papa. A real Papa-girl!

First Movie Night

We had a very pleasant day, just hanging out at home, getting some work done and playing a lot. Tonight we had our first family movie night. We watched CARS and made popcorn. Lilly was fascinated by the air popcorn machine and so very cute when she sat between us on the coach with her own little bowl. It was really nice to spend the evening together, even though Lilly only watched half the movie and played the half with Wally and his squeaky toy.
My little bug inside of me has been kicking up a storm the past couple of hours and insists on pushing against my ribs. Actually is seems like he is all over the place. I enjoy this part of the pregnancy very much: I can feel him regularly and I am mostly feeling well myself. A few more hours of sleep throughout the day would be nice, but we all wish for more of that.
Wir hatten einen sehr schoenen Tag und haben einfach nur zu Hause gefaulenzt, gespielt, und ein bisschen Arbeit erledigt. Heute hatten wir unseren ersten Familienfilmabend. Wir haben uns CARS angeschaut und Popcorn gemacht. Lilly war ganz fasziniert mit der Popcornmaschine und so suess als sie zwischen uns auf der Coach gesessen ist mit ihrer eigenen kleinen Popcorn Schuessel. Es war schoen den Abend zusammen zu verbringen, auch wenn Lilly nur die Haelfte Zeit hingeschaut hat und den Rest mit Wally und seinem Quietschspielzeug gespielt hat.
Unser kleiner Junge in mir tritt schon seit ein paar Stunden wie ein Wilder gegen meine Rippen. Eigentlich fuehlt es sich so an als ob er ueberall gleichzeitig ist. Ich geniesse diesen Abschnitt der Schwangerschaft: ich fuehle ihn regelmaessig und es geht mir relativ gut. Ein paar extra Stunden Schlaf wuerden mir nicht schaden, aber wer will das nicht?

Campaigning in the neighborhood

We spent November 4th going for a nice walk around the neighborhood, displaying our favorite candidate's name on a shirt we crafted with Sonja. We are obviously happy with our new president-elect.

My sister insists on remarkable table manners, including using fork or spoon at all times. Given, we were raised that way, but I am not so obsessed with that. Lilly does eat with silverware, but she hasn't perfected her skills yet. As long as she eats healthy foods, I am not stressing about the delivery device. :)

Bedtime

No matter how busy our days are, bedtime is always one of my favorite moments. We have our little ritual of getting ready: changing in pj's, milk, medicine, brushing teeth, cuddling in the rocking chair using Oma's blanket to cover up, singing all kinds of songs that have to be interrupted by different songs, our special hug, and tons of the best kisses ever. Then she'll show me the sign for sleepy and I tuck her in with her blankie and a little friend, we say night-night and throw a last kiss, lights out and quiet for twelve hours. Whenever we have a difficult day, the special time with Lilly are my pick-me-up. I love my little critter!

Auch wenn wir noch so einen vollen Tag haben, ich freue mich immer auf meine besonderen Minuten mit Lilly zur Schlafenszeit. Wir haben unser eigenes kleines Ritual: Pyjamas anziehen, Milch, Medizin, Zaehne putzen, Kuscheln im Schaukelstuhl mit Oma's Decke zum Zudecken, mehrere Lieder singen - normalerweise unterbricht eines das andere, unsere besondere Umarmung, eine ganze Menge von den besten Kuessen und dann sagt sie mir dass sie muede ist und ins Bett will. Ab geht's ins Bett mit ihrer Kuscheldecke und einem Kuscheltier, noch Gute Nacht sagen und einen letzten Kuss, Licht aus und Ruhe fuer zwoelf Stunden. Wannauchimmer wir einen schwierigen Tag haben geben diese zwanzig Minuten mir wieder positive Energie. Ich hab' meine kleine Maus wahnsinnig lieb!

Our cat Cubby - he is rather shy. He'll only come out to cuddle when the dog is somewhere else and Lilly cannot be heard or seen. He is a very good cat.
Unser Kater Cubby - er ist sehr scheu. Er kommt nur raus zum Kuscheln wenn der Hund woanders ist und er Lilly nicht hoeren oder sehen kann. Er ist ein sehr braver Kater.

Name search!

We are searching for the perfect name for our new addition. It's a boy and we already picked the middle name: Robert - it's a family name. We are going to keep a list of all suggestions and hope to find the right name for our future baby G. Thanks for your help! All suggestions are welcome!
Wir suchen nach dem perfekten Namen fuer unseren Nachwuchs. Es wird ein Junge und wir wissen schon dass der Mittelname Robert sein wird - ein Familienname. Happy Belated Birthday, Grandma!

Grandma had her birthday last week and we went out to celebrate. We had a very nice meal and grandma's kids had fun playing with the pegs.

Afterwards we went back to Grandma's house for cake and playtime. Lilly enjoyed roughhousing with Papa and Grandpa.

Halloween Fun

We went trick-or-treating last Thursday with friends. At first Lilly wasn't exactly thrilled about the idea of wearing a costume. Only Papa could convince her to wear it, and she looked so cute! Just in case you can't tell: she was a little skunk - our little stinker.
Wir sind letzten Donnerstag fuer Halloween von Haus zu Haus gegangen. Anfangs war Lilly nicht besonders begeistert vom Kostuem, aber Papa hat sie dann doch dazu gebracht es anzuziehen. Falls es nicht offensichtlich ist: sie war ein kleines Stinktier.

She collected some candy, a little bracelet, and a juice box. It was her first juice box ever and she just had to try it. To my delight, she wasn't very fond of the sweet taste.

We went up to a very nicely decorated house and our little stinker decided to take a break on somebody's front porch. The couple that lives there thought it was totally adorable, especially since she brought her own candy.
Lilly hat beschlossen sich bei diesem Haus auszurasten. Sie hat sogar ihre eigenen Suessigkeiten mitgebracht.
She had to check out every luminary.

We were out for two hours, but she spent the last thirty minutes more or less being carried from house to house. Most of that our friend Todd did. Lilly enjoyed the ride.
Wir sind fuer zwei Stunden von Haus zu Haus gegangen, aber die letzten dreissig Minuten musste Lilly getragen werden. Ein Freund von uns, Todd, hat das gemacht. Lilly hat's genossen.
