Wegerzyn Gardens

L and I went for a long walk on Sunday. We stopped at the Botanical Garden. She loves looking and touching flowers. Although, she had a complete meltdown when I made her get back in the stroller. That was her first real big show-off in public. What a joy! I will have a tooth-implant surgery on Thursday morning - wish me luck, I can use it. We also changed the layout of our first floor around. We switched the dining room and the family room. Now its much cozier and L has more space to walk. We are just trying to get used to not eat while watching TV. That's a hard habit to break. Maybe one of these days we will amount to a good example for our baby girl. :)




Next week I will go to IPI with T. I am really looking forward to that and it'll be nice to do it with a friend. I am determined to come back a better person, or something like that. I think when my husband went, it really helped him change some stuff. I am looking for similar results. I am just going to miss L - its five days without her. But maybe I can get some sleep. (As long as T doesn't snore, lol)

First Haircut!

On Tuesday L had her very first haircut. Her hair was already really long - some of it went down to the middle of her back! Now she has bangs and shoulder length hair. She was so good. She only complained once for a couple of seconds, but see yourself, she was otherwise great! She got her first lock to take home, Papa blew bubbles for her, she got to play with toys, watch Nemo, and had her picture taken. She also got a certificate for her first haircut. She was so proud of herself.

Walking, walking, walking...

We are celebrating! L had a very busy and eventful week! She said farewell to the paci, started to walk on Saturday, changed to taking only one nap, and had her first haircut yesterday. We went on Saturday to lunch with Papa and then to the library book sale and she was very patient with us. We got tons of books and tapes very inexpensive. When we came home we played with L and to our big surprise she started walking all by herself, right after she concentrated pooping her pants. It was so funny!
Wir feiern! L hatte eine sehr wichtige Woche! Sie hat den Schnuller aufgegeben, hat am Samstag gehen gelernt, nimmt nur noch ein Schlaefchen (das koennte von mir aus zwei sein), und sie hatte gestern ihren ersten Haarschnitt. Wir sind am Samstag mit Papa zum Mittagessen gegangen und danach zum Buecherabverkauf der Bibliothek. Wir haben einen Haufen Buecher und Videos sehr billig bekommen. Nachdem wir nach Hause gekommen sind haben wir mit L gespielt und zur grossen Ueberraschung ist sie zum ersten Mal ganz alleine durchs Wohnzimmer gegangen! Wir sind so stolz!


We had a playdate with B on Friday. The girls had a fun time! They both like playing at the playground. L always has a big smile on her face when she sees B.
Am Freitag sind wir mit B zum Spielplatz gegangen. Die Maedchen hatten Spass! Die beiden lieben den Spielplatz. L hat immer ein grosses Laecheln am Gesicht wenn sie B sieht!

Belated Happy Birthday!

Belated, but Happy 2nd Birthday to my little godson Marko! He is a great kid and I admire how well he behaves when he needs to go regularly to the hospital. He loves to play, doesn’t like taking naps, and we can’t wait to see him in the summer! We love you very much and we are proud of you!
Verspaetet, aber Alles Gute zum 2. Geburtstag fuer meinen kleinen Patensohn Marko! Er ist ein ganz toller kleiner Junge und er erstaunt mich wie tapfer er ist wenn er regelmaessig ins Krankenhaus muss. Er spielt gerne, nimmt nicht gerne Schlaefchen, und wir koennen es kaum abwarten ihn im Sommer zu sehen! Wir haben Dich sehr lieb und wir sind stolz auf Dich!Also, Happy 40th Birthday to my oldest brother Ernest! He celebrated on Saturday with a big party! I hope you had fun! How did your first week as a husband feel?

Good Bye Paci!

With paci - mit Schnuller....

We got rid of the paci! What an accomplishment for my little critter! Of course, she is't too thrilled about the idea, but she is semi-cooperating. Especially since she doesn't have another choice. She is missing it at bedtime and she won't go to sleep at naptime without it, but hey, she can only go so many days without a nap - right? Oh, and she doesn't go back to sleep in the morning after her bottle anymore, but maybe that'll change - I really hope so. She has been a great sleeper so far, but she is a creature of habit. So if she doesn't have her blanky, paci, a bottle before bed, and her musical turtle, it's not a good experience. Once in a while we forget the turtle when we go somewhere, and it made me drive back home before, just so she would go to sleep!

No more paci! - Kein Schnuller mehr!
Wir sind den Schnuller losgeworden! Ich bin ganz stolz auf meine kleine Maus! Natuerlich hat sie sich nicht so drueber gefreut. Sie hat ja sowieso keine Wahl - boese Mama! Unterm Tag braucht sie ihn nicht mehr, aber wenn es zum Schlafen kommt ist das eine ganz andere Sache. Abends geht es ja noch weil sie muede ist, aber nachmittags will sie kein Schlaefchen nehmen. Hoffentlich wird sich das noch aendern weil ich glaube nicht dass ich auf Dauer die Nerven habe fuer eine schlaflose, muede L. Bis jetzt war sie immer sehr brav mit dem Schlafen. Sie ist jemand der eine Routine mag: solange sie ihre Kuscheldecke, den Schnuller, eine Flasche vor dem Einschlafen, und ihre Musikalische Schildkroete hat, geht es ihr gut. Nimmt man aber eines weg, kann man die ganze Sache vergessen.

We're finally better!

Okay, it has been forever since I posted the last time! L was sick for 11 days and I had a virus for a good week. Just as we were getting better, Daddy got sick. Now we are improving and are looking forward to a busy second half of the week. I've been working on the backyard and hope to make some progress this weekend. This is the first year that I'll be in charge of the yard, wish me luck - I have a tendency to kill whatever I try to grow ;)
Okay, jetzt habe ich schon lange nicht mehr geschrieben! L war krank fuer elf Tage und ich hatte fuer eine Woche einen Virus. Gerade als es uns besser gegangen ist, ist Papa krank geworden. Ich habe gestern im Garten gearbeitet und hoffe dass ich dieses Wochenende daran weiterarbeiten kann. Das ist das erste Jahr das ich fuer den Garten zustaendig bin. Wuensch mir Glueck - ich bring alles um ;)

Mein Bruder Ernest und seine Freundin Doris haben am Samstag geheiratet! Herzlichen Glueckwunsch von L, S, und mir! Wir freuen uns fuer Euch und hoffen Ihr habt Euren besonderen Tag genossen und nicht zu viel Stress gehabt. Die beiden haben zwei suesse Maedchen die sich auch gefreut haben dass Papa und Mama nach elf Jahren endlich geheiratet haben. Leider konnten wir nicht dabei sein, aber wir wuenschen Ihnen Alles Gute fuer die gemeinsame Zukunft!

Still Sick

Well, its Sunday night and a snot-nosed baby is sitting by my side, patting the doggy and all in all bugging him silly. She is fascinated with his pawn, but that is like his one spot he is sensitive about. Amazingly he tolerates her workings. L still has a very runny nose, a pretty bad cough, and the tips of her two new teeth are through, but she is still working on pushing them out. All together she feels pretty miserable. We are hoping for a better night and some well-deserved sleep. Hopefully she'll feel better tomorrow.
Es ist Sonntag Abend und mein verschnupftes Baby sitzt neben mir und traktiert den Hund. Sie ist fasziniert mit seinen Pfoten, aber er ist sensible wenn es dazu kommt das sie angefasst werden. Wie durch ein Wunder toleriert er die Kleine. L hat noch immer eine laufende Nase, einen schlimmen Husten, und obwohl die Spitzen ihrer zwei neuen Zaehne rausschauen, scheinen sie ihr noch immer weh zu tun. Im Grossen und Ganzen fuehlt sie sich miserabel. Hoffentlich werden wir eine bessere Nacht mit mehr Schlaf haben. Dann wirds ihr morgen vielleicht besser gehen.

Shots, Cold, Two new teeth

We went yesterday for L's 1-year-check-up. Everything is alright with her, she needs to get imaging done next week for her bladder and kidneys. She is now 31 1/2 inches tall and carries around 22 lbs and 15 oz. She is off the charts for height and 75% for weight. I have no idea where she gets the height from.... She also got four shots and cold in the coming. It turned out that she isn't dealing very well with the vaccinations, her cold and cough have gotten worse, and this morning I noticed that she also has two new teeth on top. No wonder she was crying for several hours yesterday and hasn't taken a nap all day today. Never mind that she is so tired that her eyes fall shut every time I rock her. Now she is upset with me because I won't let her chew on the dogtoy - when will she decide its naptime?
Gestern waren wir beim Kinderarzt fuer L's 1-Jahres-Untersuchung. Es ist alles in Ordnung ausser dass sie nexte Woche ein paar Tests fuer ihre Blase und Nieren machen muss. Sie ist jetzt 80 Zentimeter gross und 10.4 Kilos schwer. Sie ist ueber die Scala drueber fuer Groesse, und 75% fuer das Gewicht. Ich hab' keine Ahnung wo sie die Groesse her hat... Sie hat auch vier Spritzen bekommen, die sie nicht besonders gut vertragen hat. Oben drauf hat sie eine Verkuehlung. Heute morgen habe ich dann gesehen dass sie oben zwei neue Zaehne bekommen hat. Kein Wunder dass es ihr so schlecht geht. Sie will auch nicht schlafen, obwohl ihr die Augen zufallen jedes Mal wenn wir im Schaukelstuhl sitzen. Jetzt ist sie boese mit mir weil ich sie nicht auf dem Hundespielzeug rumnagen lasse. Wann ist es Zeit fuer ein Schlaefchen?

Fourth Tooth

We went for a nice walk with our dog Wally. L loves the walks, especially when we walk along the creek. She watches the water and its obvious she wants to play in it. We'll do that this summer when she can securely stand on her own. When we came back to the house, our cat Woody had pushed the sheers apart and was waiting for us.
Wir waren gestern mit Wally spazieren. L geht gerne spazieren, vor allem wenn wir am Bach langgehen. Sie schaut das Wasser an und will so offensichtlich drin spielen. Wir werden das im Sommer machen wenn sie besser alleine stehen kann. Als wir nach Hause gekommen sind hat Woody auf uns gewartet.
L is one that enjoys playing with her food. She can make quiet a mess. Her newest little trick - taking the spoon in her mouth and wiggling it up and down.
L spielt gerne mit ihrem Essen. Sie kann einen ganz schoenen Saustall machen. Ihr neuester kleiner Trick ist den Loeffel zwischen die Zaehne zu nehmen und ihn rauf und runter huepfen zu lassen.

Can you see the fourth tooth? It showed so well when she screamed because I had to clean her. What a bad Mama I am, trying to keep her looking decent...
Schau, der vierte Zahn! Man sieht ihn so schoen wenn sie schreit. Ich bin ja so 'ne schlimme Mama weil ich schaue dass sie sauber ist...

First Steps

Finally - the sun is shining for longer than an hour and I don't have to be at work! I love the overalls - my little country girl! Of course, she's got to have a sheep dog.
Endlich - schoenes Wetter fuer mehr als nur ein paar Stunden und ich muss noch nicht mal arbeiten! Ich lieb' L's Overalls - mein kleines Landmaedchen! Natuerlich braucht sie da auch einen Hirtenhund.

We enjoyed the nice weather, going for a walk, playing outside with the dog, and practicing walking. I am proud to say that the little one is doing a great job! She learned just in the past couple of days to stand on her own - if only for a little bit, but still. She also took on Friday her first real steps without holding on. She's takes two steps, and then gets so excited that she launches herself in my or Papa's arms. Then she starts kreeching really loud to show how proud she is of herself. Pretty soon she'll be running all over the house. Her Papa is looking forward to that - or at least he says so. (I think he isn't aware of how much more work it'll be for him to take care of her when she contantly wants to walk herself whereever he'll take her.)
Wir geniessen das schoene Wetter, gehen spazieren, spielen draussen mit dem Hund, und ueben fleissig das Gehen. Unsere Maus ist sehr brav dabei! In den letzten paar Tagen hat sie gelernt alleine zu Stehen, ohne sich anzuhalten, und ohne Hilfe ein paar Schritte zu machen. Nach gut zwei Schritten freut sie sich so sehr dass sie sich in Mama's oder Papa's Arme schmeisst. Dann ist sie stolz auf sich selber dass sie ganz gluecklich quietscht. Lang wird's nicht mehr dauern und sie wird im ganzen Haus rumlaufen. Der Papa kann's kaum abwarten bis es so weit ist. (Ich glaube er hat keine Ahnung auf was er sich da einlaesst.)

Greetings to M in Prag - sounds like you are having a great time. Istanbul for the weekend? Come on, I am glad if I make it out of the house :) We are excited for you and hope you enjoy every minute of your travels! Your pictures are awesome!

So many pregnancies....

Congratulations to my best friend S and her husband - they are expecting their second child. He or she is due in December! I am so excited for them. Another friend, N, is also pregnant with her second child, a boy, and is due in July. And then there is R in South Carolina, who is pregnant with her first child, due in November. Isn't that crazy? I am happy for all of you and hope you have the easiest pregnancies ever - I mean it! And before you even get the idea - no, we aren't going to get pregnant any time soon. We have a long trip to Austria planned in July and I do not want to be pregnant flying overseas. Plus L is still a handful and I really enjoy my time with her, so does her Papa. We'll add on to the family eventually, when we feel more ready...
Herzlichen Glueckwunsch an meine beste Freundin S und ihren Mann - sie erwarten ihr zweites Baby. Er oder sie wird im Dezember zur Welt kommen! Ich freue mich wahnsinnig fuer sie. Eine andere Freundin, N, ist auch mit ihrem zweiten Kind schwanger - ein Junge der im Juli zur Welt kommt. Und dann ist da auch noch R in South Carolina, sie erwartet ihr erstes Kind im November. Alles Gute fuer alle drei und die Maenner dazu. Und bevor sich jetzt jemand denkt dass es fuer mich wieder Zeit waere - nicht so schnell! Wir werden noch ein bisschen warten, vor allem da wir im Sommer nach Oesterreich fliegen und ich da wirklich nicht schwanger sein moechte - ich wars beim letzten Mal. Ausserdem geniessen wir unsere kleine Maus und koennen schon noch auf weiteren Zuwachs warten. Wenn's so weit ist lassen wir es jeden wissen...

On another note, my sister tells me that my Mama is doing better. She can walk again with some help and her spirits are improved. Hopefully it won't be long and she'll be able to come home - right now she is at a rehab clinic in Kapfenberg. I have to say a big THANK YOU TO DANI AND MARTIN for taking such good care of Mama. They, and my sister even more, have taken on the burden of ensuring that my Mama is well taken care of and that at home everything stays the same. Since I am so far from home, I am even more greatful than normal for her help. I am looking forward to see everybody in the summer and it'll be great when they get to see L for the first time.
Was ganz anderes, meine Schwester hat mir erzaehlt dass es meiner Mama schon einiges besser geht. Sie kann jetzt schon mit Hilfe gehen und sie fuehlt sich auch besser. Hoffentlich wird es nicht mehr all zu lange dauern und sie wird wieder nach Hause koennen - momentan ist sie in der Reha Klinik in Kapfenberg. Ich muss ein grosses DANKESCHOEN AN DANI UND MARTIN schicken. Die beiden, und vor allem meine Schwester, schauen dass meine Mama alles hat was sie braucht und kuemmern sich auch um alles zu Hause damit Mama sich keine Sorgen machen muss. Da ich selber so weit weg bin von zu Hause, bin ich sehr dankbar dass ich mich auf sie verlassen kann. Danke. Ich freue mich schon alle im Sommer zu sehen und auch dass sie endlich L kennenlernen koennen.
